About the TIR System
It is a global and reliable transit system.
"Paving the way to economic prosperity"
The IRU began to create the TIR system in the late forties of the 20th century with the aim of helping war-torn Europe restore commercial and trade links.
In 1959, the success of the System led to the adoption, under the auspices of the United Nations, of the TIR Convention, which is still in force today and unites 76 contracting parties - states and international associations from four continents. The functioning of the Convention is controlled by the United Nations Economic Commission for Europe (UNECE).
Given the ongoing expansion and economic benefits of the TIR system in Eurasia, many countries from Africa, Asia, the Middle East and South America are also planning to join this transit system.
